Welcome to your GSCS Nutrition Source!

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are 18 foodservice sites providing healthy and nutritious meals to students at No Cost.  We take pride in serving staff at minimum cost.  Current conditions, due to the pandemic, prevent us from inviting parents and community members to come visit our schools and join us for a meal.

Our mission is to partner in the educational process by providing quality meals and to create nutrition education opportunities for parents and students that promote Healthy Children, Ready to Learn.  We continue to be excited because Griffin Spalding County Schools (GSCS) will continue to offer meals at no cost to students under the Seamless Summer Option for the remainder of the 2022 school year.  GSCS will then continue to offer meals the next three years, 2023 through 2025, at no cost to students under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).   There will be no free and reduced lunch applications to complete for the next three years and no meal charges for students.  GSCS offers school breakfast, school lunch, and an after-school snack program.

What is requested of you and your children?

PARTICIPATION
  • Please encourage your children to participate daily in our no-cost breakfast, lunch, and snack programs.  Please encourage your children to maximize their eating experience by selecting all meal offerings.  This will not only give them a more satisfying experience but will also provide them with the opportunity to eat more fruits and vegetables.  Now is their opportunity to have a voice in their future menus and meal offerings.
  • We are asking parents and students to participate in the implementation, periodic review and update of the local school wellness program.  If you are interested in participating in this process please send your contact information to robert.wheeler@gscs.org.

We recognize that well-nourished children are better equipped to learn. Providing healthy food and nutrition education are key ingredients in educating students to make choices that will develop into life-long healthy eating habits. We have a commitment to excellence, devotion to and passion for child nutrition. Our program is an enhancement to the educational programs of our District – HUNGRY CHILDREN CANNOT LEARN. The School Nutrition program is operated under the federally funded National School Lunch Act and the Child Nutrition Act. All federal laws regulating the program are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE). The program objectives are to safeguard the health and well-being of students by providing nutritious food in a safe environment at NO COST and to help ensure that participating children gain a full understanding of the relationship between proper eating and good health.

Sincerely,

Robert Wheeler, Director of Nutrition
