Griffin-Spalding County School System Announces Child Find Efforts

to Determine Eligibility for Special Education Services

 

  

A free, appropriate, public education with full continuum of services is available for all eligible children enrolled in the Griffin-Spalding County School System and for those students who are home schooled or enrolled in private schools and preschools, including religious schools.  For more information concerning eligibility criteria and referral procedures, please contact the Office of Special Education at 770-229-3700.  The staff can answer questions or direct your call to the appropriate person.  All referrals are considered confidential.  The parent or legal guardian retains the right to refuse services and other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.

Overview

Griffin Spalding County Schools currently serves between 1100 and 1200 annually with 100 teachers including speech, vision, and hearing impaired), and 60 special education paraprofessionals.

The majority of our students participate in general education with support from the special education staff in the form of inclusion, resource and consultation services. Our services range from the least to the most restrictive settings.

The areas of exceptionalities include the following:

  • Emotional & Behavior Disorders
  • Mildly Intellectually Disabled
  • Moderate, Severe & Profound Intellectual Disabled
