On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, a symbolic bond burning at Carver Road Middle School marked the official payoff of the 2002 and 2003 bonds from the 2001 school SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax). That school SPLOST built Moreland Road Elementary School, Kennedy Road Middle School, Carver Road Middle School, and an addition to Spalding High School. The 2001 School SPLOST bonds' principal totaled $23 million and was paid off on time last month. The symbolic bonds were placed in the fire by 2001 School SPLOST committee chair Cheryl Matlock and current board of education chair Raymond Ray.
