Teacher of the Year Timeline

THIS IS THE MEMO THAT WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THE 18 TEACHERS OF THE YEAR FOR 2009-2010. THIS INFORMATION IS INTENDED FOR THEIR USE AND ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN HOW THE PROCESS WORKS.

Congratulations for being chosen as your school's Teacher of the Year!

We are proud of you for being named by your peers as the Teacher of the Year for your school. A school system teacher of the year will be selected from the school teachers of the year.  This is done by using the state application for teacher of the year.

Please use this link to access the application for the Georgia Teacher of the Year (TOTY) competition. This application will be used as the basis for selecting the three finalists for the Griffin-Spalding County School System Teacher of the Year competition. The application is also attached.
Link: Teacher of the Year Application

The three system-level competition finalists will be chosen by a selection committee representing each school, generally comprised of former Teachers of the Year, and will be announced at the September 1, 2009, board of education meeting. During the month of September, a panel of judges will observe and interview the three finalists. The Griffin-Spalding County School System Teacher of the Year will be named at the first October board of education meeting.

After the system-level Teacher of the Year is named, the School and Community Services Department will work with the teacher to refine the application and ensure that it meets all requirements for the state competition.

Please complete the enclosed application. Completed applications must be received in our office no later than 4:00 P.M. JULY 29. If assistance is needed, please contact me at the above email address or telephone number.

If you would like to mail the application, please send it to:
