Attendance Zones

The Board of Education approved the current middle school zone map, which was recommended by the School Attendance Zoning Committee, on April 12, 2005. The new middle school zone lines were proposed in preparation for the planned opening of one new middle school in the school year 2006-2007, and two more in later years. The schools will range in size from 412 students to 688 students and diversity will be moderately balanced middle schools.

The feeder elementary schools for the middle schools are:

  • Kennedy Road Middle School - Jackson Road, Jordan Hill, and Moore Elementary Schools
  • Cowan Road Middle School - Atkinson, Beaverbrook, and Cowan Elementary Schools
  • Carver Road Middle School - Orrs and Moreland Elementary Schools
  • Rehoboth Road Middle School - Anne Street, Crescent, Futral Elementary Schools

The zoning process took into account population growth trends; the proximity of elementary feeder schools; bus transportation; building capacities; diversity percentages; parent feedback; and teacher/student ratios.

The new zone lines included minor adjustments to Atkinson Elementary, Futral Road Elementary, Jackson Road Elementary, Jordan Hill Elementary, and Moore Elementary School zone lines.

The Griffin-Spalding County Board of Education held public hearings on the proposed middle school zone lines to obtain feedback from the Griffin-Spalding community.
