School Volunteers
In order to provide an even safer school environment for our students, the Griffin-Spalding County School System requires all school volunteers to complete a volunteer application and authorize a criminal background check. This requirement is outlined in a policy that pertains to volunteers (Policy IFCD-R) approved by the Board of Education.

This process is one of the measures in place to strengthen safety for students. Volunteers may secure an application here or from the school where they want to volunteer. Simply complete the application and the authorization of release of criminal information and return the application to the school in which you wish to volunteer. The school will then process it and send to the Human Resources Department to complete the authorization.

A one-hour basic training session that prepares volunteers to work directly with individual students or small groups is required. As soon as applications are processed and approved, volunteers will be notified of the next scheduled training date. The training is scheduled to be given throughout the year. At that time volunteers will receive a package of information about their responsibilities and guidelines for doing their job.

"We enjoy having both school volunteers and school visitors in our schools," said Anna Burns, Director of School & Community Services. "There is difference: a school visitor signs in at the school's front office, obtains a visitor pass and maybe eats lunch with their child. School volunteers, on the other hand, are individuals working without pay or other compensation under the direction and guidance of a school system employee. Through this process, we hope that school volunteers will feel better equipped to complete their responsibilities and appreciate an even safer school environment."
