Gifted Education Rule (Back to Gifted Student Services) Students in the Griffin-Spalding County School System become eligible for gifted education services based upon the criteria provided in the State Board of Education Rule 160-4-2-.38. A multiple criteria assessment process is used to evaluate student eligibility for gifted services based on evaluations of academic achievement, mental ability, creativity, and motivation. In order to be eligible for participation in the gifted service programs, the state of Georgia has established the following criteria: Georgia Criteria for Gifted Eligibility Rule 160-4-2-.38 The referral and evaluation of students for the gifted program requires collecting data in (1) mental abilities, (2) achievement, (3) motivation, and (4) creativity. A student must meet the eligibility criteria in order to receive gifted services. It sometimes happens that a student will meet the criteria in one or two areas but not in three. In that case, the student is not eligible for participation in the gifted program. The results of the testing are valid for two years.
